Citizen Sues Hammond.

Hammond, La., May 1. - The city of Hammond has been made the defendant in a lawsuit involving $2700 which N. P. Griswold, a resident of the town, asks as compensation for personal injuries received in a runaway accident, alleged to have been caused by a defective street crossing, wherein a plank "kicked up" and caused the horse of Mr. Griswold was driving to take fright and ran away.

The accident occurred several months ago and subsequently the complainant, with his attorney, Columbus Reid, appeared before the City Council and asked for damages agreeing to compromise the suit for $700. This the Council refused to do.
