Alligator Scares Bathers.

A large alligator which appeared in the river near Wilkesbarre, Pa., recently, frightened several persons, and has prevented the usual Saturday bathing of the small boys.

It was first seen by Calvin McCarter and Chester Hughes, small boys, who were bathing. It stuck its head above the water near them, and they got out as soon as possible.

A little later, farther up the river, Sanford Pearson and Abraham Reichard heard shrieks of alarm from a young man who had been bathing and saw him rush up the bank. He, too, had seen the alligator and it made for him. He got out of the water with surprising rapidity.

Several boating parties also report seeing it.

Boatmen say they have heard of an alligator which escaped into the river two years ago and which was seen near Sunbury recently.-New York Sun.
