PHILADELPHIA, April 30.

Extract of a letter from Captain Lambton, of the brig Jenny, from this port for Barcelona, dated Lisbon, March 7, 1767.

"I take this opportunity of acquainting you of the terrible passage we met with from your place, being ten weeks and four days. On the 5th of January had a very hard gale of wind, and prodigious heavy sea, which split all our sails, broke the stanchions and rails, and pump heads, and carried every thing off the decks; canted the corn, and laid the ship on her broadside. We made much water, and the pumps choked, so that we expected the next sea to end our troubles, but Providence ordered otherwise; the next sea struck our bows, and threw the vessel before the wind, which the sails could not have done. In this situation, we found our rudder sprung; we did all that was possible, and our endeavours succeeded in saving us, though I hourly expected the decks to blow up; we continued before the wind and sea. At eight o'clock at night, prodigious dark, was surprised to see a light close ahead of us, so near that we had hardly time to go clear of it; a ship from Philadelphia, grain loaded, with her masts gone; our main shrouds were close to her boltsprit, and the people on board crying out for God's sake to stay by them, for they were sinking, but our condition was too dangerous to grant them any assistance. At two o'clock it moderated, and I brought to again under a reefed foresail, having no aftersail. Next morning proved fine weather; and the wind shifting, we steered a course to find out the distressed ship, but unfortunately could see no more of her."
