Full Text

The village of Concord is rapidly improving. From one end of the street to the other, new buildings are erecting, old ones repairing, and additions making to those already erected. The sound of the hammer, the plane, the saw, and the trowel, is heard from the rising to the setting sun; and from Monday morning until Saturday night. The spirit of improvement pervades all classes of our citizens. Those of them, who can find no improvement to make in their dwellings, or a spot of ground suitable to set a building upon, are now arranging and more highly cultivating their gardens and farms. The "pick-axe, spade and shovel" are put in requisition. The hills are transferred to the valleys, the "rough places" are made smooth; and the face of nature is undergoing a rapid change. If this enterprising spirit continue, the whole village will soon appear in a new dress; and those who were familiar with the garb it wore in the days of the old State House, will hardly be able to discover any of its ancient features, excepting Horse-shoe Pond and the River.
