Saturday last being the day fixed on for a trip to Harpers-Ferry, according to previous arrangement the Company met at the usual place of rendezvous, and took up their line of march at 8 o'clock, A.M. They arrived there about 12, M. and took their quarters at Carrell's Hotel, (it being the place fixed on by the unanimous vote of the Company.) and remained until 2, P.M., being treated with the most hospitable and gentlemanly attention by Mr. C., who did every thing in his power to make them comfortable during their sojourn with him. The Company then marched to the Arsenal Yard, and from thence, accompanied by the Harpers-Ferry Guards, to Camp-Hill, where they remained for several hours, performing various military evolutions together. The Companies returned to the Ferry about 5 o'clock, P.M. and after partaking various refreshments furnished by some of the good citizens, the Artillery again took up their line of march for home, being accompanied to the suburbs of the town by the Guards.
The Members of the Artillery have rarely been more gratified or better pleased with a visit than they were with this, having been treated by Capt. Seaman, together with his admirable Company of Guards and the citizens generally, in the most gentlemanly and hospitable manner. Should the Guards ever see proper to pay us a similar visit, I have no doubt that the Artillery will demonstrate to them how highly they appreciate their conduct and esteem them as gentlemen and as a company.
A Member of the Artillery.
