(By United Press.)

PEORIA, Ill., Sept. 19.-Nominee Hughes chose Peoria as the city from which to hurl his first speech in his second presidential campaign tour. He spoke in the hall in which, the state Republican convention was meeting. In an hour's address on the nation's needs of the future, he annunciated, practically every one of his doctrines of Americanism and protective tariff.

Adequate laws covering labor and fair treatment to all legitimate business.

The Grand Old Party candidate seemed pleased to get back into harness. He started with a smile at the crowd greeting him at the station, and waved his hat in almost Rooseveltian glee at the applause on the streets, In voice and gesture at the Coliseum he exhibited a full measure of pep.
