Aeneas McMillan, 43, of Middletown, N. Y., was instantly killed while hitch hiking near Tasley, Va., Wednesday night about 8 o'clock, when he was hit by an automobile owned and driven by W. O. Strong.
He was in company with B. W. Kalostoboken, of Chicago, and both had recently been discharged from the Veterans Hospital, at Kecoughtan, Va.
They were walking on the concrete facing traffic. About opposite the driveway to the Hopkins farm they met Mr. Strong, who was driving with his lights focused on the ground as he was meeting another car. The men were not seen until the car passed, and it was too late to avoid hitting them. When McMillan was knocked down, his body knocked Kalostoboken down. Mr. Strong stopped immediately and rendered first aid and called for a doctor and state police.
A hearing was held before Trial Justice L. Brooks Smith Thursday and Mr. Strong was exonerated of any responsibility for the accident.
