A Neat Parody—There is an amusing jeu d'esprit reprinted from Punch in the form of a parody on Campbell's Hohenlinden, called "Jenny Lind en." It relates to the refusal of Jenny Lind to sing in Drury Lane Theatre, because the Manager had degraded it by the introduction of wild beasts on the stage. It begins thus:
"On Lind, when Drury's sun was low,
And bootless was the wild beast show,
The Lessee counted for a flow
Of rhino to the treasury.
But Jenny Lind, whose wakened sight
Saw Drury in its proper light.
Refused for any sum per night.
To sing at the menagerie."
"On Lind, when Drury's sun was low,
And bootless was the wild beast show,
The Lessee counted for a flow
Of rhino to the treasury.
But Jenny Lind, whose wakened sight
Saw Drury in its proper light.
Refused for any sum per night.
To sing at the menagerie."
