WHEN Doris Fisher was four years old she looked up at her father, Fred Fisher, and said:
"You know, daddy, you're just like a mother to me!"
Daddy Fisher happens to be a song writer who never lets any grist pass his mill unscathed and so he sat right down and wrote "You've Been a Mother to Me." It sold 2,000,000 copies.
Doris is now twenty-one and very easy to look at. She has gone into the song writing business herself and is making more than good. Here are some of the hits:
"Kisses From My Violin to You" (music by Doris and words by Al Bryan, who has frequently collaborated with her father).
"Winter in Havana" (words and music by Doris).
"Selling My Love for a Song" (words and music by Doris)
"Vanessa" (music by Doris words by dad)
"Gotta See a Man About a Dog" (music by Doris, words by dad).
"What's Become of High Hats" (words and music by Doris).
From this imposing list it can clearly be seen that the little girl is a great help to her father.
Oddly enough she didn't want to write music. A home in the country and babies were her hankering. However, the urge got the better of her. She went to Hollywood to Joe Moss, who signs up music writers. He said he'd give her ten minutes of his time. Two hours later he was still listening and so were Harry Richman and Vincent Lopez.
When Doris gets an idea it is usually about 3 a.m. At this sleepy hour she hops out of bed, sits down at a piano and there you have it.
She plays the violin piano and dances. She loves to cook, plays good tennis and bad golf, and is as we have said, lovely to look at
