TOLEDO, O. - Negro residents here have been urged by the Toledo branch of the NAACP to discontinue buying Schlitz Beer, Rolling Rock Beer, Falstaff Beer and Champain Ale in a selective buying campaign directed at the Metropolitan Distributing Company.
The company, which distributes the four products, presently employs no Negroes.
In a letter to NAACP members and friends, President J. Frank Troy and Rev. John M. Evans, chairman of the Selective Buying Committee, stressed the fact that attempts at negotiations with the company had failed and that the only alternative was direct action.
Although qualified Negroes have applied for positions with the Metropolitan Distributing Company, not one has been hired. Withholding of patronage will continue until some agreement is reached with the company concerning employment of qualified Negro personnel.
