'Make You Shoot Me' You Boast Brings Death
An irate common-law husband fatally shot last Saturday evening after saying 'I'm going to make you shoot me,' to a neighbor who had put him out of his home for using profane language.
The victim was Earlie Smith, 28, 3738 Chene, who suffered a gunshot wound in the lower part of his face. Held for investigation of murder is Allen Coleman, 33, of the Chene address.
Coleman told police that Smith, an unknown friend in man's apartment and his wife, Ruby, drinking with another Hattie Howard, his wife.
Started arguing and about his wife being in apartment drinking. Coleman used profane language everywhere except his apartment. After ordered to leave, he threw him out bodily through the front door.
Then started to push on the door; and Coleman told his wife to get a shotgun from the bedroom and load it with two bullets. Coleman stepped into the hall and pointed the gun at Smith who said,
"I'm going to make you shoot me."

Coleman stated that Smith took off his coat, put his hand in his trouser pocket and began walking towards him. When Smith got ten feet from me, I put the gun to my shoulder and fired one shot," Coleman added.
Smith was dead upon arrival at Receiving Hospital about 8 p.m.
