LOOK AT THIS PICTURE!

Who ARE THE Loco Focos? Rather should we ask, what are the Loco Focos! for they are scarcely of consequence enough to be dignified with a personal pronoun: We shall answer the question propounded, by inquiring who they are not.

Are they the farmers, the yeomanry, the great agricultural class-the platform on which rests the resources, the institutions and liberties of the country? No! Do they belong to that honest, industrious population, who labor for their being, and extract from the earth the rich products which are the staples of our wide commerce? No! Do they belong to the hardy, intelligent race of men, whose whole lives are passed in upholding the framework of society-in planting and cultivating the seeds of virtue, of truth, of morality, of religion? No!

Do the Loco Focos, then, belong to the great shipping and trading interest of the seaports! Is it they who purchase or transport the agricultural products of our country, to realize the golden harvests that are brought back from other climes? Is it these men that sustain the glory of our naval enterprises-that are in battle for the flag and honor of the country-for the preservation of her name, her fame, and her liberties-for the perpetuity of her institutions, and the transmission of them to their descendants? No!

Do they then belong to the third great interest-that of the manufacturing! Is it they that desire to see the loom and the shuttle flourishing in the land! Is it they who build up thriving towns and villages, and make our valleys vocal with the hum of the cotton wheel and the spindle? Is it they who desire to double, ten fold, the wealth of the country, by converting the produce of the soil into the thousand multiplied forms which so much enhance its original value, under the ingenious fabrics which our factories give to it? No!

Lastly; is it to the great mechanic interest of town and city-of seaboard and interior-that I find all other classes together, by their invaluable labor, their daily toil over the anvil and the work-bench? Does the Loco Foco party belong to this indefatigable and laborious class, whose days and nights are consumed in incessant toil to procure a competency for their wives and children-to rear them in the paths of virtue-to promote their comfort and happiness-and leave a good name behind to go down to after ages? No! Is it to the mechanics, who have more than all others at stake-the preservation of peace and harmony in all the relations, domestic or political of society-that the Loco Focos claim an alliance? No! No! It is not to this honorable class, nor to any of their persons, that this reckless, abandoned crew can dare to claim alliance.

Who are they, then? They are the scum-the off-scourings-the dregs-the refuse-the outlaws of society-the sans culottes and revolutionists-the blood-thirsty Robespierres-in fine, the Destructives of society-the putrefactive mass of decomposition which would poison, corrupt and destroy every element of the social compact-the desperadoes, who, festering in the consciousness of their own rottenness of heart and principle, would revel in confusion and chaos, and in beholding reversed, not only the laws of man, but of the Supreme being himself, could they, like their Satanic brethren of old, or the Titans of old, storm the empyreum of heaven itself. They acknowledge no government-no laws-no standard of life but that of the prostration of every noble virtue and institution, and the total inversion and destruction of every principle of action or thought by which mankind have hitherto been governed. They glory in blaspheming religion as an oppressive imposture on the credulity of mankind. They rejoice in the pollution and annihilation of every revered monument or distinction which industry or virtue has reared over crime and infidelity. They would raze every temple of religion to the ground-burn and destroy every mansion or hamlet, and cry ruin, havoc and blood, till the globe itself should be wrapped in one universal conflagration, and they could riot and revel over the wreck of matter and the crush of worlds

"Look at this picture, and on that," Choose which will ye, my countrymen:--ruin and devastation, or peace and happiness-the Destructives, or the Conservatives of society.
