Expect Red Cross Roll Call Will Go Over 1200 Quota
Total Of 1100 Memberships Reported To Date With Returns Yet To Come In From North Grosvenordale District.
With final reports yet to be made, it appeared today that the campaign for memberships, conducted by Putnam Chapter, American Red Cross, would go over the top.
The drive, which last week was barely beyond the halfway mark, gained impetus as the closing date neared, Walter N. King, director, said this morning. Workers had reported less than 700 members last Wednesday with Saturday, October 31, set as the date for the closing of the campaign. In those last three days, workers launched a last minute canvass that sent returns soaring to 1100 memberships this morning and more than a hundred more anticipated when final reports are turned in.
As yet no report on the progress of the drive had been made from the North Grosvenordale section. It is expected that this community will contribute enough memberships to bring the drive near to its goal, 1200 members.
Reports from Putnam and other towns in this district follow: Putnam 602, Eastford 37, Pomfret 231, Thompson 147, Woodstock 83.
