Full Text

A New Phase of Juvenile Iniquity.—Last evening police officer Eaton arrested a boy ten years old, named John Kelly, who resides at No 2 North Margin street, for attempting to obtain money of persons in Washington street by false representations. It appears that he would suddenly set up a hideous crying and moaning, and to the sympathetic inquiries of bystanders, would state that he had lost a quarter of a dollar, and the idea of the whipping which he would in consequence catch from his parents, would add force to his sobs. In this way he obtained quite a sum from pitying passers. When taken to the marshal's office, he confessed that he had often successfully practised this deception, and that he was advised thereto by other and older boys, who had found it quite profitable transaction.—Boston Traveller.
