The meeting of Talladega alumni to form the Talladega Gulf Coast Regional here in a two-day session was a success.
Dr. Arthur Gray, president of Talladega was present and lent his advice and inspiration in the organization.
The opening meeting was held in the Fiesta Room of the Mary Elizabeth Hotel at 9 a.m. Dec. 29 with Hazel Wright, local president presiding.
Delegates from Birmingham, Monrovia and Selma, Ala.; Albany, Ga., Tallahassee, West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale were welcomed by the local organization.
After reading communications from others expressing regrets at not being able to attend, the first thing on the agenda was election of officers: Hazel Wright, president; vice president and program chairman, Dr. Gilbert Porter of Tallahassee; secretary, Mrs. Eula Mae Mays of Monrovia, Ala.; Rev. Elvis Spearman of Tallahassee, treasurer; Fr. James Hall of Ft. Lauderdale as chaplain.
The evening was spent as the guests of FAMU alumni at the home of the Robert Barnetts.
The climax of the meeting was at the 11 a.m. service at Greater Bethel AME Church where Dr. Arthur Gray addressed the alumni.
As Talladegans we wish to thank alumni of Tuskegee, Bethune-Cookman and FAMU for their cooperation and endeavor to make our organization a success.
