Full Text

THIEL, December 2. The Rhine and the Waal have risen to an uncommon height for some days past, and this day we received the melancholy account that the Rhine dyke between Opheusden and Lakemond was broken through last Sunday, by which all Betuwe, Thielward, Buren, Culemborg, Beest, Renoy, Acquoy, Asperen, and Heukelom, with all the country between the Waal, the Rhine, and the Leck, to the Diel Dyke and Gorcum, are laid under water. Thus all the inhabitants are again in the utmost misery, this being the same country that was overflowed in a former winter by the dykes breaking near the little town of Heusen.
