How to Get Winter Eggs

With continued high prices paid for eggs it stands us well in hand to plan our management so that our flock will do its best for the next few months.

It is surprising what good care and intelligent feeding will do in producing winter eggs and on the other hand, no branch of farming will show quicker losses than poor feeding and poor management of the winter layers. Winter layers must have a comfortable house, plenty of room, sunshine and good ventilation. With a good, clean dry poultry house and plenty of food, we shall get eggs.

Feed a variety of grain feeds, a mash once a day of corn meal, bran and cut bone, and green feed, such as cabbage. Give plenty of clean, untainted meat with plenty of oyster shells and pure water every day. If it is very cold, slightly warm the water, and keep the floor clean so that it may be used as a scratching floor and you will have done your part and you will find to your delight your hens will do theirs.
