Full Text

RICHMOND. JULY 28.

The inhabitants of Richmond were this day highly gratified in the return of their friends and fellow citizens—the Volunteer Blues, commanded by Captains Richardson and Randolph. These citizen soldiers, after having obeyed with patriotism and alacrity, the call of their country—after having repaired with promptitude and military fervor to the scene of alarm—and obtained the applause of the public, as well as the approbation of their own hearts, are again returned to pursue their wonted avocations.

It is thus, that we teach the tyrants of the earth that a free people require not the aids of standing armies or military splendour to defend their rights. and to prove that "for a nation to be free, tis sufficient that she wills it."
