Shocking Suicide—A Man Throws Himself
Under a Railroad Train And Is Instantly
Killed.—One of the most shocking cases of
self-destruction we have been compelled to
record for some time took place yesterday
morning on the Cincinnati, Hamilton and
Dayton Railroad, near Hamilton. The victim
was an unknown German, and the causes that
led him to "shuffle off this mortal coil" we
have been unable to learn.
When a short distance from the above named
place the engineer of the Express train from
this city saw a man upon the track, and gave
the customary signals. He was standing with
his face toward the cars, and when they were
a short distance from him he stepped from the
track, waited until the train had passed, with
the exception of the last car, and then threw
himself upon the rail, the wheels passing over
his body, and of course crushing him to death.
We understand that the deceased was a
resident of Rossville, but the immediate cir-
cumstances, if any, that led to this terrible
method of casting off his load of life have not
yet transpired. He must have suffered long
and deeply before he could determine to com-
mit such an act; of this we feel convinced, and
although we doubt the beauty of the next life,
we could heartily wish he may find it better
than this.
