Explosion of Dr. Franklin No. 2!—Terrible Loss of Life!
St. Louis, Aug. 23.
The steamer Dr. Franklin No. 2, which left for Louisville on Saturday, collapsed a flue at Turkey Island, at about 1 o'clock, killing and wounding several persons.
The following are dead:
Charles Schwirmer, Mr. McMeader, Mr. Mullen, J. Steste, James Moreau, John Brown, John Jones, Charles Williams, Patrick Murphy, John Mitchell, John M. Powell, Mrs. Payne and infant, James Harnan and son, Hugh Drum, Patrick Danley, Edward Leding, J. D. Fosjoy, Margaret Schwriui, and several others, names not known.
Missing.—Robert McMurtry, head engineer, and Geo. Bocher, striker.
Wounded.—Mr. Launey and daughters, B. M. Shapley and Mr. Still, well.
All the wounded, capable of being removed, were taken by the Herman and Selby to Cairo. The Franklin will return to this city for repairs.

The steamer Dr. Franklin No. 2 collapsed a flue at Turkey Island around 1 o'clock after leaving St. Louis for Louisville, killing at least 20 named individuals and others, with two missing and several wounded; wounded were taken to Cairo, steamer to return for repairs.
