Massachusetts Legislature.
WEDNESDAY, March 15.
SENATE. The orders of the day were taken up, and various papers therein advanced from the second to the third reading. All the important matters, however, were passed over or laid on the table, by reason of the absence of several Senators who propose to discuss them. The bill for the establishment of additional terms of the Court of Common Pleas in Essex county, was ordered to be engrossed.
HOUSE. Petitions, &c. presented and referred—of J. C. Kemp and others, for the abolition of Capital Punishment; of George Blackburn and others for a State Reform School for Girls; of several Persons, for an extension of the elective franchise to women.
Passed to be enacted—Bills, to incorporate the Boston Musical Fund Society; concerning Alien Passengers; to alter the name of the Hopkinton High School.
The orders of the day were taken up and the report granting leave to withdraw to the petitioners for a repeal or modification of the usury laws was accepted. The bill to prevent disturbances of schools and public meetings was ordered to be engrossed.
