Full Text

IRELAND.

CorK, July 10. A correspondent is of opinion that an immense addition might be made to the revenue, if the duty on swearing was properly collected. From the general tenor of conversation some millions of oaths are sworn every day in Cork, which, at the vulgar price of one shilling each, would produce a sum exceeding all comprehension. The excise laws might here be extended, as well as other articles of great consumption. Swearing is a voluntary act, and may be reckoned an article of luxury, as it administers to no one useful purpose.
