A gentleman in Cheshire County, N. H. thus
writes to his brother in Boston.

"The committee having waited on the
Hon. Mr. West to inform him of his appointment as a delegate to the Hartford
Convention, this venerable Patriot gave in
substance this answer:—“As the southern
people have threatened to hang all the Delegates who shall dare to appear in Hartford
and as I am far advanced in life, I have
thought it incumbent upon me to accept
the appointment, that the public may not be
deprized of a more useful citizen should the
threat be carried into execution.""
