Has Skipped.-Rev. T. A. Green, the colored Methodist preacher, who could sing, pray and preach louder than anybody, has made himself conspicuous for his absence for some time and his flock here don't care very much if he never returns. Mattie Hocker, aged 15, daughter of Anderson Hocker, colored, gave birth to a fine girl a few weeks ago and the reverend gentleman, who has departed, is charged with being the father of it. She was a member of Green's church and up to the time of this misfortune was thought to be as virtuous as anybody. Up to the time of the child's birth, the girl refused to tell who had accomplished her ruin and the report was started that her teacher, W. D. Tardiff, was the guilty party. This she heartily denied and later on told her father that Parson Green was the man. Green grew very indignant over the matter and demanded to be tried by the church. At his trial he was acquitted of the charge, but the girl's father was not satisfied and he took the case to the county judge for trial. A warrant was issued for Green, but when the officer went to serve it the bird had flown and now his whereabouts could not easily be located. Green evidently heard about the intended trial and skipped. He has a wife, who is still here.
