BUY AT HOME.
In the enterprises that have been and are going on, every effort should be made to so manage as to have the greatest amount of funds expended with and put in circulation among our own people. If the boom company supplies any portion of the money it is to their interest, not only to see to this, but to get the best work at economical rates, otherwise the promoter of a factory if he was so inclined would get more money out of them, than actually required.
In the furniture factory we note a large boiler made in Williamsport Pa. We have a citizen in our own town, Mr. John Farrin, who is acknowledged to be among the best boiler makers in the country. True, his works are now in Jefferson county, but that is in the State, and he is a resident and tax-payer of our town and he would have put in the work at less than it cost and that is surely an item. The foundation of another factory is now being constructed and we are told the bid for the same machinery is three hundred dollars less than the eastern cities offer. It will be singular, if persons have such an amount as three hundred dollars to dump out of our town into some other town and it remains to be determined, what action this second factory will take as to the expenditure of their funds. We would buy from home people when rates are less or nearly equal.
