WAKE FOREST SHOWS ITS APPRECIATION.

Many Improvements Being Made About the College.—The Outlook for the Opening Very Bright.

WAKE FOREST, Aug. 14.—The indications now point to the most successful opening in the history of the college. The number of new students will be very large.

The campus presents a busy scene this morning with a score or more of men clearing the walks, working the flowers and shrubbery and beautifying the grounds in every way.

The contractor is hard at work putting in the pipes for the sewerage and water-works, which the old as well as the new students will find a great convenience and comfort.

Our business men are all hoping in anticipation of a heavy trade this fall and will soon be off to the Northern markets to purchase their stocks. A leading business man told your correspondent this morning that we would have on our cotton market buyers from Wilmington, Raleigh and Norfolk this season, and that he expected to see more cotton sold on this market than any two seasons, as he had not seen such flattering indications for all crops.

The health of this community has been exceptionally good this summer. Little William Royall, son of Mr. R. E. Royall, is, however, quite sick just now.

The improvement in the paper under the new management is quite noticeable and the goodly number of new subscribers secured by your agent here to-day shows that Wake Forest never fails to appreciate a good thing.
