Full Text

Considerable alarm prevailed in New-Orleans, the beginning of last month, on the subject of hydrophobia, of which dreadful malady we presume some cases had occurred. In one night, one hundred and forty dogs were destroyed by order of the police! and the work of extermination was in active progress.

New-Orleans continued remarkably healthy up to the 3d ultimo. The exemption of this city from the ravages of fever is ascribed to the agency of a rigid police—great attention having been paid to the cleanliness of the streets and to the removal of all known causes of disease.
