THE CABINET. The readers of newspapers have been much amused of late with the romances detailed by certain letter-writers at Washington, on the subject of imaginary differences among the members of General Taylor's Cabinet. These tales are manufactured "out of the whole cloth." Our correspondent, on whose means of information and good judgment we are enabled to repose perfect reliance, writes from Washington as follows:

The new administration goes on smoothly. Mr. Meredith is on his contemplated visit at home, to arrange his affairs, and to prepare for the removal of his family hither. No removals and no appointments are therefore going on at the Treasury this week. The press of visitors is not now great.

"You have seen a vast amount of caterwauling in the newspapers about Mr. Fitz Henry Warren, the excellent Second Assistant Postmaster General. It all turns upon the fact that he is guilty of the heinous crime of being a zealous Whig, and of having failed in business. These are shocking offences, to be sure. But if everybody should be hung, drawn and quartered, who is alike culpable, there would be an awful slaughtering. The truth is, it was a most inexcusable attack upon Mr. Warren, which has been made, and the great dust that is now raised, is to cover the retreat of those who commenced it.

"Mr. Warren wins golden opinions from everybody who has any business with his particular department. He started off on a full tide of popularity the first week he entered upon his duties. So far as his conduct of public business is concerned, a more prompt, agreeable, intelligent and gentlemanly officer cannot be found in or out of Washington."

The new administration under General Taylor is proceeding smoothly. Rumors of differences among Cabinet members are fabricated. Mr. Meredith is on a visit home to arrange affairs and prepare for family removal to Washington. No removals or appointments at the Treasury this week. Attacks on Mr. Fitz Henry Warren, Second Assistant Postmaster General, are inexcusable due to his Whig affiliation and past business failure. He is praised for prompt, agreeable, intelligent, and gentlemanly conduct in his department.
