ON HER KNEES WOMAN BEGS JURY TO CONVICT.

(Special to The Evening World.)

PHILADELPHIA, May 17.—To the amazement of Judge Carr and the spectators in the Court of Oyer and Terminer to-day, where Luigi Ferrucci was convicted of murdering Carmelo Santa Marko, the murdered man's wife as she was leaving the stand shortly before the case went to the jury fell upon her knees and sobbingly cried in Italian:

"I beg of you to avenge the death of my dead husband."

Self-defense was Ferrucci's answer to the charge. He declared that Santa Marko and he had been friends until last November, when Santa Marko insulted him.

"Santa Marko got very angry," said the accused man, "and assaulted me. I attempted to run away from him, but he cornered me in an alley and to defend myself I pulled out a pistol and fired at him."

The jury brought in a verdict of murder in the first degree.
