It is said an eminent merchant of this metropolis has publicly declared, that the ensuing sessions of parliament, he will further, with all his influence, a motion to be made, for applying one moiety of that immense sum, which we use to throw away as German subsidies, to be employed in a scheme for the better encouragement of new settlers in Florida and Louisiana ; to invite families to remove thither, and for the extension of agriculture and manufactures in these our conquests ; and in fine, by a proper attention to the interests of trade, to render the powerful empire of North-America, in our hands, the true and only perfect balance of power among all nations in Europe.
