A most singular well situated upon a narrow ridge of land somewhat elevated above the surrounding country, at the distance of more than a mile from a branch of Fever River. The first twenty feet of its depth is through clay, in which were occasionally found masses of loose rock; the remaining twenty four feet and a half through deep strata of grey limestone. The proprietor had penetrated to the depth of forty-four feet, without discovering any water, and was on the point of abandoning his labors upon that spot, when he accidentally broke through the rock with his pick and discovered a brisk running stream of pure water, two feet and a half in depth and ten feet in width.
