IS HE RESPONSIBLE?
Ever since John Garner declared himself thoroughly wet, West Texas has been deluged with floods. If he wishes to win favor in that delightful part of Texas he had better follow Vice President Curtis' example and declare himself dry. It is no joke to have numerous inches of rain dumped all at once on that area, flooding valleys, destroying property and taking human life. Mr. Garner ought to disavow responsibility and try to lay the blame on the Hoover administration.
He would much prefer to claim responsibility for the return of prosperity to the United States.
Doubtless when General Depression and Old Man Gloom saw in the headlines that a West Texan had become nationally prominent in politics they began to realize that the jig was up and they had better crawl into their holes. The prices of farm products are going up, retail trade begins to boom, factories are calling back some of the unemployed and the economic sky is visibly brightening.
Perhaps John Garner can prove an alibi and free himself from the charge of flooding West Texas, but he should carefully investigate his claims for the return of prosperity. It may be that Governor Murray will assert his claims on the ground that prosperity began to come back when his boom faded out.
At any rate, don't let the East get away with the credit for recovery. Texas and the Southwest claim that honor. But West Texas is surely wet. Too bad.-Dallas (Texas) News.
