Full Text

The attention of women in England has been again aroused to the need of having women physicians and officers for every institution where women are confined by a scandal in the Dartford Asylum, Kent. Here a pauper idiot who had been in the institution for years died in childbirth. Not only was an outrage committed on this helpless, irresponsible woman, but she was grossly neglected by the male doctor thus causing her death.

Such shames should be rendered impossible by having women in all these responsible positions for the care of their sex, but there is too much of politics in these appointments to admit of women being given them until they represent a voting class.
