Improvement In Our Town.

I am glad to boast that I am a citizen of the town. I am proud of it, but I could be even more proud of it if several improvements were made.

I would gladly say to the world, "This is my home; I am its citizen; I do all in my power to keep it up, and so do my fellow citizens."

This is a week in which we should do all we can to help forestry. It is a good time to set out trees. Trees, by the way, make excellent shade friends in the hot August days. They give a city the atmosphere of a cool, quiet, and peaceable place. Trees also encourage birds to build nests in their outstretched, arm-like branches.

Why not add more beauty with more trees?

The individual can add to the city's beauty by planting flowers in the yard. The lawns could be kept smooth by constant care, and most important the houses could be somewhat renewed by painting. Spring is the best time to do all this, so why not get busy?

Another thing which seems very important, is our village park. The reason why it is so important is that it would accommodate so many of our tourists, and would bring more people to the northern part of the state. This would not only be an accommodation to outsiders but to our business men of Grand Rapids, for it would mean added profit to them.

Our park should be made for old as well as young. Have a green house, suitable places for rest, swimming pools, play grounds, and fire places so as to enable our visitors to make themselves at home. Then after going away they will think the north is something more besides ice and snow.

Come! Let us start our work immediately. Don't wait for some one else to begin. Let us do it now.
