Full Text
It is fair to presume, from the tone of the House, yesterday, in the discussion of the resolution on the subject of the adjournment, and from the collateral fact that the House sat for seven hours, in order to dispose of the bill making appropriations for the Indian Department, that there is at length a serious disposition to do the public business and go home. It will astonish our readers—we confess it astonished us—to hear that there are nearly 400 bills before the House. If, as was candidly admitted by Mr. Marable, the Jackson members only remain to make a President, it can require no great sagacity to foresee that a very few of these 400 bills will be acted on at this session but that the great mass will fall as a legacy to the next.
