Extract of a Letter from Halifax, Nova-Scotia, dated Feb. 6, 1774.

On the 20th ult. a Fire broke out here within 50 Yards of the Barracks, which destroyed three Houses before it could be extinguished: the Wind was from the North West which blew the Fire from the Buildings, otherwise the whole Barracks must have been consumed: all the Wells of the Garrison were drained quite dry, and the People of the Prison saved most Part of their Effects. The Military behaved extraordinary well, but the Inhabitants, a few excepted, most shamefully, for they give no Assistance at all.
