"THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE"
While Tucson and Phoenix are growing by leaps and bounds, Nogales continues in a way to be a second Rip Van Winkle, all because there is a house shortage here.
While hundreds of new people are pouring into Tucson and Phoenix--the populations of those cities are growing rapidly--Nogales is just about holding its own.
While hundreds of new apartments and houses are being erected each year in Tucson and Phoenix, there continues to be no indication of any person or firm soon building many greatly-needed houses and apartments in Nogales.
Nogales has a Chamber of Commerce and a Wonderland Club. The latter is spending thousands of dollars each year to advertise Nogales, it is sending out great quantities of literature each week inviting new residents to come here.
The Nogales International believes in advertising, we know it is a good thing, but what great good does it do to attract new people here when there is not even enough accommodations for persons who would come here without such national advertising.
As long as Nogales spends thousands of dollars for national advertising and has no place to put new residents, when they come here. we will continue to maintain that "The cart has been placed before the horse."
Nogales will never grow rapidly until someone or some construction company erects more houses. Until that time comes we can expect Nogales to continue to lag behind Phoenix and Tucson.
