VICTORY AND VICKERY.

Augusta Republicans Win a Decisive Triumph.

Citizen Atkins Gets Left.

And the Other Candidates for Mayor Find it a Cold Day.

The Republicans Elect Six Aldermen.

No Choice in Ward Three.

Vickery's Majority, 411.

Election day brought with it blue sky and sunshine. The day was beautiful—a happy augury of republican success from the start.

A comparatively light vote was polled in the city. The republicans elected their Mayor by 411 majority; swept every ward except the 3d, where there was no choice of alderman, and routed the combined force of the opposition, horse, foot, and dragoons. There is not enough left of the deceased to furnish a first-class funeral. Augusta never experienced a quieter election day. There was some drunkenness. Occasionally an inebriated gentleman would reel up to the polls, and ejaculate in a thick voice,

"Gimme (hic) a straight temperance vote. I go in (hic) for a more rigid enforcement of the liquor law."

Quite a number of democrats, exasperated at the unorganized and ignoble condition of the opposition, voted for Mr. Vickery for Mayor. In Ward One, at one time, several clergymen, an ex-Governor and other prominent citizens followed each other in rapid succession to the polls, and cast a straight republican ballot. Behind them staggered a notorious rough, a street loafer, his face flushed with potations of intoxicating liquor and voted the temperance ticket. Mr. Nye must feel proud of his jewels. We give below the result for Mayor, and after that the vote for Aldermen and ward officers in the various wards:
