Full Text

THE ILLINOIS SENATOR-SHIP.

Gen. Jno. A. Logan has been defeated in the Illinois Senatorial contest, and there will be but few tears shed over it by liberal minded men. In fact the country will be rejoiced. The man who has been chosen is Judge David Davis, associate justice of the Supreme Court. Judge Davis was placed on the Supreme bench by appointment of President Lincoln in 1862. He formerly affiliated with the old line whigs, but of late years has been classed as a liberal republican. He is a fair minded man and the election of him to fill the seat which Gen. Logan will vacate on the 4th of March is a good lick. If a few more such swaps as Logan for Davis and Clayton for Garland can be made the country will be all right.
