ANNIVERSARY PLANS AT SPELMAN NOW CONSUMMATED

Spelman College will celebrate the 55th anniversary of its founding next Saturday, April 11, when Miss Mary van Kleeck, director of studies of the Russell Sage Foundation and one of the outstanding sociologists of the United States, will deliver the annual Founders Day address. The exercises of the day will be held in Sisters Chapel at three o'clock Saturday afternoon, and will be open to the general public. In the morning the students will participate in a program of athletic events on the campus and later will place flowers on the plaques in Howe Memorial Hall which have been erected in memory of the founders of the college.

The exercises in the afternoon will be preceded by a formal academic procession to Sisters Chapel in which the members of this year's senior class will march for the first time in their caps and gowns.

Friday evening April 10, the evening preceding Founders' Day, the Spelman College Glee Club will give its annual concert in Howe Memorial Hall. This musical event, which will be open to the friends of the college will be given under the general direction of Kemper Harreld, director of music in Spelman and Morehouse Colleges. Willis Laurence James, of the Spelman College music faculty, will direct the glee club, and Mrs. Naomah Williams Maise will act as accompanist.

Miss van Kleeck, this year's Founder's Day speaker is one of the foremost women in social work in the United States. She has been director of industrial studies in the Russell Sage Foundation since 1905, and in this capacity she has contributed much to better understanding of the complex relations between employers and employees. Miss van Kleeck's greatest contribution to betterment of race relations in the United States was her service during 1926 to 1928 as chairman of the executive committee of the National Interracial Conference, whose work culminated by the meeting of this national group in Washington, D. C., in December, 1928. During the war period, Miss van Kleeck was director of the women's branch of the industrial service section, Ordinance Department. In 1919 she was appointed and served for a period as director of the women in industry service of the U. S. Department of Labor.
