George Zimmerman, Who Was Recently In Trouble Here, Tries to End His Life at Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 2.—George Zimmerman, a well known printer, swallowed fifty-five grains of morphine to-night in an attempt at suicide and it was only by hard work upon the part of the physicians at the city hospital that his life was saved. He had been in hard luck and entering a saloon on West Green street he called for a glass of whisky. He poured the deadly narcotic in the glass and saying: "If there is anything in this story of a God I'll face him to-night," and drank the potion. No one believed that he had taken anything until the morphine began to work. He was hurried to the hospital, where the stomach pump was used, and the overdose proved that he had taken too much so his life was saved.

Zimmerman was in Maysville a week ago and on complaint of his wife Sadie was arrested by Policeman Dryden on a charge of house-breaking. Mrs. Zimmerman claimed he broke into her home back of the jail for the purpose of killing her, but she was not permitted to testify against him and the warrant was dismissed. The couple have not been living together and she stated he had sued for divorce at Lexington but she did not know whether a decree had ever been granted. Zimmerman introduced a letter showing she had invited him to Maysville. A dangerous looking knife was found in the room where he was arrested. He was neatly dressed and looked to be in good circumstances.
