Full Text
Bob Logan, of Empire, says the Carson Appeal, has discovered a new plant growing wild along the banks of streams and ditches. No one seems to know what it is and he has sent it to the Nevada Agricultural Station to be passed on by the Botanist.
It grows a slender stem about three feet high. It has few leaves and there are pods or bolls on the top, which burst and disclose a cotton-like substance in appearance but silky to the touch, and pure white.
The fibre of this is about three inches long. Under the bark is a layer of fine fibre which runs the length of the plant, and is very strong.
Mr. Logan showed the writer some of this fibre twisted up about the size of a knitting needle, and there was no one in the Bullion Bank strong enough to break it with his fingers.
Mr. Logan thinks he has discovered some new plant in Nevada that will be as useful as flax or hemp. Indeed, this plant closely resembles flax.
