Car Chased Nearly Four Miles Before It Is Overtaken
Non Resident Giving Name of Robert Cox Arrested—Held For Grand Jury.
Thirty-six gallons of rye liquor were recovered by the police department last night at 9:30 o'clock and a man giving the police the name of Robert Cox, a non resident, was taken in custody charged with violating the provisions of the state prohibition law. The liquor was in half gallon fruit jars packed in pasteboard cartons and according to the police it came from the vicinity of Petersburg.
It is stated that the automobile driven by the accused was chased from a point four miles southwest of Alexandria to the upper end of Duke street before it was finally overtaken.
The liquor was enroute to Washington, it is said.
When Cox was arraigned in court today he entered a plea of guilty and was held for the action of the grand jury and his bond was fixed at $500. Justice Duvall also ordered his car held.
