National Director Speaker At Recent Local Chamber Dinner Meeting
PLAN MARDI GRAS
Thomas Faix, national director, was the guest speaker at the September meeting of the Smyrna-Clayton Junior Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night at The Paddock. His subject: "Why I Need Jaycees." Robert Marker, state vice president, was also a guest and spoke briefly. George Moore, local president, conducted the business session. George D. Wright, past president, was named chairman of a Hallowe'en Mardi Gras which is planned by the Jaycees. It will include a Hallowe'en parade, with prize awards for various classifications, followed by a street dance. Final plans will be made at a meeting later this week at Mr. Wright's home.
An all-state conference will be held at The Paddock on the first Sunday in November, with the Middletown Junior Chamber of Commerce and the local Jaycees as hosts. A majority of members of the Smyrna-Clayton Jaycees will attend the Mid-Atlantic three-day, eight-state conference to be held this weekend in Wilmington at which Governor McKeldin of Maryland and Wendell Ford, national Jaycee president, will be the speakers. On Friday members of the Smyrna-Clayton and Middletown Jaycees will meet with the national president at lunch at the Anchor Inn. Three new members were welcomed into the local Jaycees: Edward Melvin, William Marsh, and John Potter. Guests at the meeting were Vance Cole and William Bowers. The next meeting will be known as Bosses' Night, when each Jaycee will invite his boss, or another guest at which time the film, "The Jaycee Story", will be shown.
