Full Text
"Having been lately in New Jersey, I had the pleasure of spending several nights with Dr. Witherspoon and his family, who are there very agreeably situated. The Doctor has been much caressed in all the places which he has visited in this continent, and has had considerable success in procuring donations to the college, the funds of which were formerly very low, and must in a short time have been exhausted under a less popular President. He seemed to have a design of visiting this province some time in harvest, and the account I gave him of our hospitality will probably be a farther inducement to him, as I am certain he will be kindly received by all our countrymen here, and perhaps may pick up something for the encouragement of learning.
"His salary income is now about 500 l. sterling, and his office rendered very easy. The number of students who attend that college is already treble of what it was before, and is expected still to increase."
