WORCESTER, September 25.

A number of dwelling houses, shops, &c. have been broken open and entered in the night, in different parts of this county, within a fortnight past—and from several of them pieces of plate, and other articles have been carried off. About 3 o'clock on Thursday morning last, the dwelling house of Mr. Salisbury, in this town, was entered by breaking the cellar window, by which means the villains had access to the kitchen, which they rummaged, and carried off three silver table spoons and some other articles; the front room being locked they could not easily enter it by the door, and therefore went outside the house, and were breaking the casement by boring, when they were discovered and hastily run off. From several circumstances, it appears that there are five or six of these villains lurking about, who without doubt are connected together in this diabolical business. It would be greatly conducive to the safety of the inhabitants of this county, if an association was formed of two or three men in every town in the county, who on notice given of a theft, robbery, house-breaking, &c. would immediately pursue the villains who commit the crime until they were overtaken and brought to justice. Such a plan would soon make this kind of gentry very scarce in this county; as it does in some parts of Connecticut where this method is adopted.
