Ohio anglers bought 918,042 fishing licenses during the season ending March 1, 1949 placing the state in fourth position in license sales in the United States according to U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service figures.
Michigan headed the states with 1,110,109 sales, totaling $2,102,347. California was second in sales with 1,030,617 but first in revenue with $3,138,501 for licenses.
Wisconsin was third place with a sale of 1,022,004.
Across the nation, anglers spent $32,657,940 for 15,478,570 licenses. The increase over the preceding year in sales was 1,400,609.
Although the Ohio fishing season for 1949-50 will not close until February 28, Division of Wildlife reports indicate that the total sales for the year just ending will reach 950,000.
More people fished outside their own states last year than in previous year. The 1,891,346 non-resident sales represents an increase of 292,508.
Leaders in sales of out-of-state licenses were Wisconsin with 285,277, Michigan 283,879 and Minnesota with 214,895.
