Arthur Madden, white, alleged red agitator, was seriously wounded Friday afternoon when hunger marchers destroyed signs on a truck used to advertise the candidacy of Joseph F. Tittinger white, for committeeman of the Second Ward. The truck was standing before Tittinger's headquarters at 35th street and Prairie avenue when marchers approached orderly passing out handbills announcing a march to and demonstration at the stockyards April 19. When they came to the truck they began tearing the canvas from the truck.
A man rushed out of the headquarters and fired four shots into the crowd. After firing he retired to the headquarters where police arrested him when they came in answer to a riot call. When the police left the scene a man piled paper beneath the truck and set fire to it. Officers came and pushed the truck out of danger before it was damaged.
