Full Text
Republicans and progressives in Oklahoma face a chaotic condition. The progressives have no ticket of their own. Their only chance to gain any advantage is to vote for such progressives as have been nominated on republican tickets. Republicans are confronted with a condition which makes it necessary for them to scratch their own regular tickets or vote for men whose election will give patronage and power to the progressive organization avowedly designed to destroy the republican party. Under such circumstances the only possible bond of unity between these factions is an appetite for the spoils of office. The politicians who are looking for jobs are seeking to keep all issues and principles in the background, and to unite the warring elements by an appeal to their prejudices against democracy. Surely the voters will not be deceived by this chicanery of would be leaders. Surely they will exercise their own intelligence and follow the dictates of their own consciences and vote their principles rather than play into the hands of the bosses. When they do this they will not vote the straight republican ticket. There is not a republican in Oklahoma who can honestly and conscientiously vote the republican ticket without scratching some part of it.
