The English papers brought by the Active, present to our view a kingdom almost rent to pieces by the feuds of faction: The House of Commons, with Mr. Fox at their head, assert their privilege of advising the Crown--while Mr. Pitt, the present prime Minister, backed by the King, maintains its authority notwithstanding its reiterated attacks. At present they have no settled system of government, one part undoing what the other do. Mr Fox's surprising abilities as a statesman being universally approved of by the nation at large, opposed to the influence Mr. Pitt has with his Majesty, exhibit two formidable parties frenuously contending for superiority, while the real interest of the nation is totally neglected.--The consequence of which may possibly end in the horrors of a civil war. While we must feel a conscious pleasure in our disconnection with that nation, yet sympathy for mankind induce us, while we wonder at their folly, to pity their situation.
